Hey everybody. Sorry this is posted so late. Hopefully I'll be caught up by next week with everything...just got a whirlwind of stuff happening. Just like everybody else though right...not about to start a pity parade.
Anyway the article I am going to critique is:
Desing Principles for Online Instruction: A New Kind of Classroom. You can view it at http://tojde.anadolu.edu.tr/tojde13/articles/toporski.html
Toporski, Neil., & Foley, Tim. (2004) Design Principles For Online Instruction: A New Kind of Classroom. Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education, 5 (1).
It's an interesting article and it suits me well as I am just becoming aacquainted with the content of this course and it will help me a lot (I hope.) I would like to invite as many people as possible to read it and my critique to offer me feedback. There is a lot of experience out there that will benefit me a great deal so please let me know what you think.
Looking forward to working with everybody!
Jeff

Hi Jeffrey:
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog and the draft of your article critique. I thought you provided a good summary of the article and I particularly enjoyed your reflection and found it insightful. After reading through the blog I do have a couple of suggestions as follows:
• In the reflection you spoke about an evaluative tool, but this was not mentioned in the article summary. I think it would flow better and provide a better connection for the reader if you described the tool in the summary first.
• In the critique portion of the blog you say, “An abundance of research is available that will attest to these design principles of instruction being linked to quality learning environments”. My question when reading this was, how do you know that? I am wondering if it would make a stronger statement if you were to reference something or someone when you say this.
• In the critique portion you go on to say, “lecture style course delivery as the primary teaching mode is outdated and has been shown to be less effective than collaborative”. Again I think this statement would hold more weight if you could source a study backing this up.
• In the last paragraph of the critique portion you say, “There is no mention as to how to bridge this gap”. I think you need to be more specific about what you think the article is lacking as I didn’t understand what you meant by bridging the gap.
• I enjoyed the reflection portion of the article. I felt you stated clearly what you felt you could take away from the article as well as some of your own thoughts regarding technology.
Thanks for allowing me to peer review your critique. I hope these comments are helpful to you.
Lauren
Thanks for the suggestions. They will be very helpful. I do have some articles that I have read that I will be referencing. I just want to make sure that I incorporate them effectively.
ReplyDeleteAs well, thank you for bringing up the point about the 'bridging the gap' comment. It is rather vague so I will have a chance now to clean that up.
Thanks for taking the time to give me thoughtful feedback. It is appreciated.
